Why do we collect ...Stuff? When I wind up in a second hand store, or an antiques store or any place with weird junk for sale I am always on the lookout for a few specific things. Old kids books, Vintage fabric, and 78's by anyone whose name I recognize. I have found a few gems: Dr Goat by Georgiana, (not only a winner because our daughter loved it but also because it can sell for upwards of $100!) We have a 78 of 'I Walk the Line' by "Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two". It's so fun to twirl the kids around the hardwood to a song we already know. And as for vintage fabric; I am one of those women who have an outrageous fabric stash, a stack of started projects and a head Full of Great Ideas.
The thing about collecting is that it's not always easy to live with your collections- especially if you, like me, don't want to wind up featured on "Hoarders" (Dark voice/Ominous music: "When the objects you take in come to define you") How can we live with our collections in a stylish way? How can we be ruthless when we edit them down? And what is it that makes them meaningful to us?
